appalachian trek

Just got back from a gorgeous two-day trip on the Appalachian Trail. We started after dark at Carver's Gap, just north of Roan Mountain, picked up the AT heading toward Tennessee, headlamps guiding the way. After about two or three miles we made our first camp at Grassy Ridge Bald and were serenaded by our trombone packing neighbor across the ridge.

Got up early the next morning and made our way through Yellow Mountain Gap, past Overmountain Shelter, and over Little Hump and Hump mountains. We were blindsided by a fast moving storm at the top of Hump, but slowly made our way down the other side and finally made our last camp at Doll Flats.
